More than 49 thousand students of the less developed areas of the country including AJK, FATA and GB availed 100% fee reimbursement

 More than 49 thousand students of the less developed areas of the country including AJK, FATA and GB availed 100% fee reimbursement amounting to 1.126 billion rupees under the “Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme”.

Chairperson, Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz Sharif revealed this while chairing a high level status review meeting of the scheme, held here today at Prime Minister’s House. The meeting was attended by Chairman Higher Education Commission and senior officials of the PMYP and HEC.

Chairperson informed the participants that besides many mega projects, the present democratically-elected government of PML (N) has successfully implemented Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme to promote higher education in the country and maintained that the present democratic dispensation believes in the politics of performance.

She directed the HEC authorities to start work on the 100% reimbursement of next year’s fee to the deserving students of higer education across Pakistan. Besides the students of districts of Malakand, Kohistan and DI Khan already availing 100% fee reimbursement, the Chairperson  directed to explore the possibility for  including more deserving students of Khyber Pukhtounkhwa hailing from less developed districts of the province. The meeting also decided to expand the cover of the scheme by including more less developed areas of other provinces in the Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme.

Chairperson PMYP also directed the HEC to start distributing 98,000 laptops among the talented students of PhD, MPhil, MS, Master’s and Bachelor’s studying in public sector universities and colleges across the country by the end of November this year. The meeting also decided to upload the names of the beneficiaries of fee reimbursement and laptops on the website of HEC to ensure merit and  transparency.

The meeting was told that Haier Electronics China would install a laptop assembly unit in Pakistan by the end of November this year to assemble 1000 laptop units and would award 10,000 US$ scholarship to the deserving students for undertaking higher education in addition to internships to the students and establishment of e-class rooms, HEC authorities informed.
