Islamabad: 17 May, 2016:  “Provision of better employment opportunities to the marginalized segments of society is the cornerstone of PML-N’s socio-economic development strategy”, said Ms Leila Khan, Chairperson Prime Minister’s Youth Programme while chairing a meeting of Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) here at Prime Minister’s office.  She expressed satisfaction at the achievements of Prime Minister’s Interest Free Loan Scheme, under which Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) has distributed 161, 840 interest free loans worth Rs. 3.4 Billion among poorest of the poor people hailing from 287 union Councils of 44 districts across Pakistan. These loans have enabled 161, 840 households in establishing their own businesses in livestock, petty trading, agriculture, stitching, embroidery, handicrafts and small scale rural manufacturing, raising living standards of around 01 Million poor population.

 

Ms Leila Khan added,” This government initiative has also been exceptionally successful in terms of empowering the women financially, as 61% of the total borrowers  under this scheme are women”.  She remarked, “Another glaring success of this scheme is to target more than 28000 BISP beneficiaries in helping them start earning on their own instead of relying continuously on cash grants by the government.”
